Hi!  Welcome to the Friends of Milford School’s website

The Friends is a charitable parent teacher friends association (PTFA) with a mission to support Milford School by making a positive and enduring contribution to school life.

The primary aim of The Friends is to coordinate fundraising, social events and working parties that in-turn support the school by enhancing the pupils’ education experiences, either directly or indirectly.

Our Objectives

  • Provide and invest in additional teaching resources that help enhance the core education service delivered by the school
  • Provide funding and implementation support to improve permanent school facilities
  • Deliver events and initiatives that improve overall school experience for pupils, staff and parents/guardians
  • Facilitate interactions between the school and parents/guardians to sustain a broader school community feel, with a focus on fundraising and volunteering
  • Support the school in its inward and outward interactions with the wider community
  • Support the school in delivery of sustainability and environmental objectives
  • Ensure Friends activities are fully inclusive and accessible

Projects

Library & Literacy Project

Commencing in the 2020/21 academic year, the Friends helped Milford School produce some ambitious plans for a new school library to support the school’s aim to develop an enjoyment and love of reading amongst pupils.

During the year, funds have been raised to purchase new furniture, lighting and more than 1,000 books for the school, as well as a computer-based library management system.  The initial furniture was installed with the help of Friends volunteers in June 2021.

Fundraising remains ongoing to raise another £2,500 to purchase the final pieces of furniture and provide decoration to complete the library space.  Additionally, the Friends have pledged to raise a further £4,000 next year (2021/22) and £2,500 in each of the following two academic years to spend solely on reading and library books, and allow the School to extend their library offering to support families and childcare providers in the wider local community.

Our detailed plans can be found here.

Eco & Outdoor Projects

The Friends are supporting the school as they develop their Outdoor Learning Curriculum, which includes transforming the outdoor areas.  This project is being led by Mrs Wells and Mrs Bruce in Oak class.

These are long-term plans, and are likely to take 3+ years to fully implement, and so the more immediate focus is on improving access to the field, repairs to the sensory garden and establishing a woodland area.

If you work for a business that might be able to help with some of these plans, e.g. re-laying block paving, removing hedging, supplying logs or tyres, etc or work for a business that might wish to sponsor some of these projects, then please get in touch with: friendschair@milford.surrey.sch.uk

Our detailed plans can be found here.

Donations and Sponsored Events

As a fundraising organisation, your cash donations are important to help us deliver on our targets.  In the current circumstances, where we are restricted in the fundraising events we can host, your direct support is more important than ever.

To donate directly to The Friends or set up a sponsorship page for an event, please go to our Just Giving Page.

You can make a one-off dontation to The Friends or set up a regular giving amount.  Even a small amount gifted regularly makes a huge difference to us.

Remember to claim Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer as this makes your donation go further at no extra cost to you.

Events

2nd July 2022 – Summer Fair

We are pleased to announce that we had a sunny and successful Summer Fair.  The School field was packed for the duration of the day, with children having fun playing the fair games with friends, and grown-ups having an opportunity to reconnect with the school and each other, after an extended hiatus forced on us by the covid restrictions.  After accounting for the costs of supplying burgers, sausages and far too much sugar, more than £4,000 was raised for The Friends and additional amounts raised by The Orchard Preschool from their Teddy Tombola stand.

Thank you for everyone who was able to attend on the day and a special thank you for all our volunteers and community supporters.

Check back soon for an updated calendar of events for the 2022/23 school year
